Large DBs

Hey,
I have a few theoratical questions. Just need some help with an assignment.
If there is a DB that is updated with 10 millions rows a day, containing a key, and 4 other values, 2 numbers and 2 dates. What would be the best way to load data into the table, since inserts are to slow for the number of rows added each day.
As well, what would be an ideal approach to mine the table. I thought it would be best to break the table down into smaller indexes.
Thanks
