Hi.

Just wondering if anyone might have any idea how one could reclaim files that have been deleted on a Windows XP PC? The files have been trashed from the recycled bin as well.

Urgently need answers.

It was easy back in the FAT16 days where deleting a file meant writing a sigma over the first letter of the filename... nowadays the OS does a whole lot more in the background and NTFS is more aggressive about reclaiming free space so odds are your files are completely gone. Hell, you probably overwrote them just by browsing to this web site and writing all kinds of junk in the web cache...

You can try sending it to a data recovery service, but you're basically shit out of luck. I wouldn't even waste my time with Norton.

What you urgently need to do is learn from this. Modern optical drives, external hard drives and improvements in Internet file sharing have taken away any excuse for not backing up your data. You didn't take backing up your data seriously and now you have to face the music. Suck it up and drive on.

[sco08y], your points are vaild, but then again, you got to be abit sensitive, your actually not helping with the problem... but then again your points are correct.. recovering is not easy....

so maybe [ordinaryguy] u could give us some details, like ur file system & your os,

most of the time the file that u back up never gets deleted or lost, but the stuff that u do not backup are the ones that gets corrupted and deleted..

that life mystery...

back in dos we had undelete.. command.. now days.. there are utilities.. that makes things a whole lot worst...

my suggestion,, if its reallythat important
1) face the fact that data is lost
2) but dont give up hope, type "data recovery" in google.. and searcha nd try away..waht ever toosl available
after 10 hours tyring but unsuccessfully... at least its worrth it.. as u tried .. but well that life
