Position Summary:



Purpose of the Sr. Database Administrator in Microsoft SQL Server is to have a skilled and dedicated resource to implement and maintain physical data models as well as design and test the database archiving, disaster recovery approaches and carry out database performance tuning, and creating the operational and maintenance instrumentation, process and procedures. Qualified applicants must have hands on experience in development and deployment of high traffic enterprise web applications environment.



Duties/Responsibilities:



Implement & Maintain Physical Data Model
Database Tuning and indexing
Capacity Planning
Implement and Monitor Security
Create and enforce database Standards and Procedures
Develop & Test Archive processes
Develop & Test Backup and retrieval process and procedures
Work with the Architectural Team, Software Development Team, and Functional/Training Team in creating supportable development, test, and production environments for application databases.
Support performance and stress testing - review test cases, monitor, analyze, implement changes
Monitor DB performance metrics
Monitor utilization of data by application
Develop Standard Operational Procedures
Create Production Support Plan and Procedures
Perform DB software installations, configuration and upgrades
Develop or install and configuration, monitoring and DB utility and management tools
Develop reports as requested by the Project Teams.
Develop DTS or SSIS packages to facilitate data collection and data infrastructure for reporting and analysis
Support Production Deployment
Skill set (mandatory skills needed):



Expert knowledge of Transact SQL
Ability to perform code and design reviews
Knowledge related to computer hardware including networks and storage devices (SANS)
Solid understanding of Windows environment, RAID Levels
Understanding of the options available to support High Availability within the MS Technology
Ability to work well under pressure and in a team environment.
Knowledge and understanding of disk capacity planning and monitoring.
Performance Tuning - Monitor efficient use of memory and CPU resources
System Monitoring - Monitoring alert logs, dump files and other logs for errors. Identify performance bottlenecks due to waits and suggestions as to how to address them.
Data migration and integration experience.
Ability to take leadership of issues and drive them to closure.
Candidates must be detail oriented, possess good problem solving skills and work within a team environment.
Must show a commitment to excellence and possess good communication skills.


Experience Requirements:



Five or more years of database administration operations experience in a Microsoft SQL Server environment, with expertise in SQL Server 2005 and familiarity with the new features of SQL Server 2008.
Demonstrated experience in large custom software development projects.
Previous experience with DTS and SSIS
Previous experience with enterprise reporting
Previous experience in Clustering, Replications, Log shipping, and High-Availability.
