Yes, this is possible. Ensure that settings for all Solaris kernel configuration parameters (documented in the DB2 Quick Beginnings manual) use the sum of the DB2 and Oracle recommendations. I read somewhere (maybe in this newsgroup) that the manner of binding IP addresses to ports is different between DB2 and Oracle. Perhaps a comm. expert who has used can explain.

We have a pretty vanila install of UDB and Oracle on Solaris 7 on a Sun E5500 (and 450) and there were no problems and no tweaks needed. The Oracle is 8.1.6; the UDB is 5.1, I think.

In Oracle you have to configure a listener file usually found in $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/listener.ora. In that file you define the port which the the listener will bound to - I think the default is like 1520 or 1521 you then identify the instances(Oracle instances which are not the same thing as a UDB instance) which will use the listener..

Thanks. In DB2, you define the ports in /etc/services Typical entries look like this:

db2cDB2 50000/tcp #connection port for the DB2 instance DB2 db2iDB2
50001/tcp #interrupt port for the DB2 instance DB2 db2cDB2CTLSV 50002/tcp
#connection port for the DB2 instance DB2CTLSV
db2iDB2CTLSV 50003/tcp #interrupt port for the DB2 instance DB2CTLSV

Can't speak to the DB2 listener. But the Oracle listener is not bound to an IP address: It is bound to a port. The default port is 2481.

Also the administration instance db2das00 (to enable remote administration) is bound on port 523, AFAIK this can't be changed. All ports on 'normal' instances can be configured the way you need it.

Yep, not a problem. There'll be no port conflicts unless you configure it that way. (the defaults are safe ... )
