Red face Oracle 8i installation error on Solaris 8 x86

Hi,

I have been trying to install Oracle 8i (8.1.7 - 8i for Solaris 8x86) on a Solaris 8 x86 (P3-1GHz, with 512 MB RAM). I do have all the necessary patches installed including the development pakcage. During the installation I get the following erro:

Exception String: Error in invoking target relink of makefile
/u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.7/precomp/lib/ins_precomp.mk

Anyone came across the same problem? If you have the fix, please E-mail me.

Thank you

I have installed 8.1.5 on my Solaris x86 box

I suggest u choose developer mode when u install Solaris and make sure that there are enough space in the /u1 partition.

Hope this can help u.

If your problem is from the following,

I should say sorry for misleading you.

http://cluster3.biosci.utexas.edu/st...d_on_linux.htm

"Error in invoking target relink of makefile /u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.7/precomp/lib/ins_precomp.mk"
The is because Oracle 8.1.7, actually all 8x versions of Oracle, were compiled against glibc version 2.1.
Most modern Linux distributions are now based on glibc 2.2 (this includes all 7.x RedHats and all 8.x Mandrakes).

Hope this helps.

This problem is due lack of space in swap, please allot about three times as that of memory if ur ram size is less than 1 Gig, or two times that of memory if it is more than 1Gig.
