Did you get it working ok?

As long as you're not doing anything crazy with it, it will be pretty tame. When it's idle it takes up virtually no resources and as long as you manage your indexes correctly (e.g. HAVE indexes ;)) it shouldn't eat up too much CPU.

Well, the only website and book that I use are the Sybase-sponsored manuals at:

There are a couple 12.5 books which are currently slated to be released in like 4 or 5 months; the latest books I've seen in stores cover 11.5 or 11.9.2.

The only two books I ever need to use are the Sybase books and Rob's Quick Reference manual (which I purchased and is incredibly useful.)

Also, if you're looking for help on newsgroups look at comp.databases.sybase. Also load a new server into your newsgroup viewer of "forums.sybase.com" and you can sign up to the sybase.public.* newsgroups (ASE is 'sqlserver').

For Sybase T-SQL your best bet is to use the online T-SQL user's guide at:

I think you can purchase the books as a hard-copy if you want; although I think they're great online (especially with the ability to search) so I wouldn't buy them.

For a hard-copy of advanced T-SQL (albeit MS SQL Server specific) I'd reccomend:
"Inside Microsoft SQL Server 7.0" (Microsoft Press; Soukup & Delaney):

I'm sure Inside MS SQL 2000 would be great as well, although 7.0 T-SQL is closer to Sybase's T-SQL since SQL Server 2000 has a bunch of new things like OLAP and such.
