AWESOME! Where are all of these people coming from? Now if we could only get them to register and then POST this would be a hoppin place!! :D

Most of them are from Google. I noticed Inktomi just spidered the site aswell though :)

I'm guessing the reason noone is posting is because they find the info they were looking for the usenet archives.

Too bad but maybe that'll keep some returning?

Also could you have the pop-up appear behind my browser window? I know popups are a way of life but if it appeared behind my browser I wouldn't go crazy each time I visit and I get a silly pop-up.

Hmmm.. what browser are you using? On my machine the popup does appear behind and also only appears once a day. Do you have cookies blocked?

I'm using GoClick PopUnders, so they really are supposed to be popping under the browser.

IE6.0 beta. It could be something goofy with my multiple-monitor set-up since it appears full-screen in my second monitor; I'll test on my laptop tomorrow or Tuesday.

P.S. it appears every "session" or like every hour or so (if I come back in 30 minutes I'll get a popup).

I'm not sure whats gong on then. Here's what the GoClick settings say:

Days between Pop-Under Displays
This is the number of days that must go by before
a pop-under appears again for the same user. Setting
this to 2 will show the popunder once per two days
(loadings of the browser). Setting to 5 days means
that they will only see a popunder once every 5 days.

The higher the number, the fewer the number of
pop-unders will be displayed for your account.

Setting this at "-1" will leave it at the system
suggested default which is currently 3 days

I actually have it set to 2, not 1 as I said earlier. I may just remove them anyway. Give my current traffic, I don't make enough money to make offset the inconvenience anyway :p

Hm, I'm definitly seeing it more than once every two days. I wonder if IE6 has some cookie bugs that are keeping the pop-up from working correctly? It's a minor annoyance since I only see it once a session so no worries if you can't get it working.

I was thinking about that, but I thought it might upset to many people. Another option is disabling posting to those groups until people have posted a certain number of posts or been a member for a certain amount of time or something. What do you think?

the best method would be to set a post restriction.

You need 10 posts to be able to read the usenet posts then a further 20 posts to be able to post to them

This ensure peoples start posting question here instead of diving for the usenet feeds

Seems like a good plan! :)
