Catching return value from sqlplus

Hi,

I want to test connection string parameters in a dos shell bash with sqlplus and then go back to the dos prompt. Is it possible to catch a return value from sqlplus.exe and display it in the dos command instead of the usual Oracle text ?

Thanks in advance.

David
