Angry ODBC causing performance problems?

As part of an Intranet we're using the IBM supplied INFORMIX driver on Windows 2k to create a DSN to connect our Windows(IIS) server to a SCOUnix server running informix. Does anybody know whether, from their own experience or theoretical knowledge, whether this is likely to be the source of performance problems that we are experiencing when using the legacy system to operate directly on Informix. We're only reading through the DSN, all writing is done via the legacy system.

If this is likely to be the cause of the problem then is there anything anyone can suggest to solve it.

Many thanks in advance for your much needed assistance.
