View Full Version : Using barcodes with Filemaker
| Has anyone found a good way to integrate barcode scanning with a computer asset inventory database? I want to be able to scan in some barcode inventory and then have FM do something like a multiple find and then be able to quickly update the found records. I have access to a palm scanner that can input a text file of barcodes. Open to any ideas on this. Thanks! |

I guess I wasn't clear, I don't wish to print barcodes, I want to make the annual computer inventory easier by being able to scan in barcodes to a text file with a mobile scanner, and the have FM use those barcodes to bring up those records to verify their location. Or something like that to easily accomplish the inventory. I'm not sure of the process other FM users have come up with to automate this inventory process.
Thanks! |

Ive created a quite a few barcode solutions.
And there are many ways to acheave what you what.
A basic solution is to have the barcode be the same as the record ID.
Then when you can cross referance the text file the database.
Or scan the barcode directly into the filemaker database and have it search the record automaticly using trio script plug in.
ex..
Database in find mode
Scaned barcode goes into the Id field.
script gets activated automaticly. (Perfom find)
record shows up on screen.
(this can be done moble if you have a palm pilot with filemaker moble on it.)
