Server sizing for PostgreSQL on Linux

I'm currently working on a solution for a web-hosting environment, where PostgreSQL is chosen as general database-system on preferably Linux servers.

The database will be used mostly for read actions, and has to be scalable from 1000 to 5000 transactions per second.

I've been trying to find some server sizing guidelines on the web, but I haven't found them at all.

Who could help me out with some links of sizing tips? Things I'm looking for is the amount of processors (Xeon MP?), memory etc.

Best regards,

Jeroen

sizing db

There is no really guideline for this

You need much RAM (set much shared memory)
and fast I/O (SCSI)

I think these are the real things you need
XEON or MP is a religious question :-)

Alos you might want to Use the Intel C compiler for compiling the source
