date manipulation - i need advice :)

can anyone help me with a date related query pls? i know its a noobie kinda question but it would be appreciated.

i need to display a count of a number of customers that have purchased stuff between a date range and i need to break it up day by day.
date is stored in yyyy-mm-dd hh:mm:s format.

its all in same table so no need for joins etc etc.
