problem in list item

hi;
i have a problem with list item.i want to fill up the display list items programatically in run time.i used group and i am successful in 1 listitem.but i need another list item which will retrieve the listitem from database which matches the first list item.
exp:
1st list box is for category
and 2nd is Subcategory.
1st list item is working well but 2nd one not.
error: couldn't create group record.
