Do we really need the commit command??

Hi,
Due to I new to oracle, so confuse with the database that I used before (access / sql server). Before that I'm using ASP and JSP for M.Access or SQL Server, and i never use Commit comand when manipulating SQL DML command (update, insert, delete). Just wonder to know This is because of the Language (ASP, JSP) or Database Component (ADO..ect) that we use or the Type of Database (Access/SQL Server/Oracle) that we use???
