Differences between XMLHTTP and IFRAMES

I need a page that retrieves data from another 6 web sites, so that these sites can be monitored (any problem with one of them will appear at this page). Basically this page displays the main page of each site monitored.

Today this is being done with IFRAMES, with an automatic refresh every 30 seconds. Should I use XMLHTTP instead? There would be any difference?
