It's very interesting to hear that.

Whatever the future holds for Brilliant Database as a company in it's current state, I sure hope the application lives on because it's seriously top quality software.

It could be far more popular right now though if there were more resources made available to promotion, support, and addons.

Regards
James

PS... still don't know what to make of the "DoMyApp" offering though. It does nothing. There are no tools for creating anything. This doesn't give me much hope for Brilliant Database being released on the 28th.

We should warn everyone about the DoMyApp - he will drop all those customers in a blink of an eye as soon as the vodka and girls dry up in Russia.

Be careful people

Waiting on bated breath, but the interesting thing to note is that this IS the owner posting the updates. Domyapp is his as well as the other sites he has. I bet he's just getting programming delay after delay hit and he's wrapping things up. Typical dev stuff to be quite honest. I think this WILL be released, just that he doesn't have a marketing arm or a public facing arm to tell anyone anything.

I'd love to buy it from him and really turn it into something great, but I think that ship has sailed.

lol... Maybe they going to skip version 10 and just go straight to 11 at this stage.

Wouldn't be the first time that happened. I seem to remember a few numbers going missing between version 6 and 9 I believe.

Dev stuff okay, but hire someone with good communication skills ;-)

The new date for launch is 1 nov.

If it goes past the next release, I think we should ask the Admin / Mods to start a Lottery. 5 bucks a man in the pot on predicting the actual date. The person the closest wills the pot....lol

Fingers crossed.

lol....Matthijs77, you got me there.

The count must stand at about 8 failed attempts for a launch date at this stage.

James.

What else do you guys expect, seriously
This is a small development team (probably one person)
They are probably short on funds. It doesn't help that their existing security model has been compromised such that, if you should so wish you can get knock fully functioning version 9 by downloading a cracked file.

If the product is as good as you state / believe / whatever then just run with what you've got. and if as and when the next version is released take a commercial decision if you want to continue with the product.

Brilliant Software isn't in the same marketplace as Microsoft (with Access), Apple (Filemaker) or nay of the server products. It doesn't have the same development funds and staff as those players

As frustrating as it is you will just have to accept that promises from Brilliant Software are intentions NOT guarantees.

Hi healdem

Your probably right, but I think it's fair to say that even a one man operation could at least take the time to communicate with their customers. If they had a cash flow problem, some communication and an offer to existing customers could help lot too. I'd pay in advance for example if there was a beta version and a road map of things left to do available. From what I gather, jeeplaw has even tried to make an offer to buy the entire operation and he didn't even get a reply.

The software is seriously good and has really massive potential. All that's missing is public relations resources. If they had that, then this could be one major successful application. As it stands right now, most people simply never heard of it.

Regarding what you said about cracked version, yeah its very very sad to see the program cracked or any piece of software cracked for that matter. Sadly though there is nothing that can be done about it and I think it's best they shouldn't focus on this at all and just keep making great software. Implementing a new security measure is a waste of time. There is no such thing as uncrackable software, and pretty much everything that exists can be downloaded effortlessly from the net.

I'm a great believer that if you make really good software, people will buy it. Those who will pirate it will never buy it either way. Complex security measures only hurt the paying customer.

As for all my anticipation in this thread, personally I do believe the program is extremely good and when I heard of v10 coming out, I got very excited and started saving straight away for my upgrade. The SDK upgrade costs are not cheap.

Since then I've been disappointed time after time with missed launch dates, ignored by emails, and not a single piece of information explaining why, or what v10 will even contain. So that's the only down side of this for me is I love their work, I will buy v10 when it comes out, but it's going to be a very unwelcome experience being jerked around waiting for it.

Kind regards
James

It is one person, developing the software. Sadly, it is the lack of communication i never would buy the new version. If he had just a (self-supporting) forum, an active twitteraccount, some helpgroup .. it would give me some trust.

If you find spam posts please report them using the third icon on the right on the menubar above each post... It helps us keep the crud down.

Because of the position this forum has the first forum in the list it attracts a lot of the naive spammers and the spambots.
