Create a proprietary database or use an existing one?

I'm new to the in depth research of DB's. If I create software for a company can I package an open source DB like mySQL and sell the software with no restrictions? And by package I mean have it embeded in my software and not have to run MySQL server on every machine that I put my software on.

Or

Should I be researching on how to make my own Proprietary DB say in Java?

I need some direction....please!!!

Just read the license. You do realize creating a proprietary DB is about as likely as creating the ever-elusive "better" text editor in linux right?
