Howdy all. Ive been a SQL Server DBA for about 6 years now. Its always seemed as though the Oracle guys make more $$$ than we do. Does anyone think this trend will stop with the release of SQL 2005? Has anyone read any articles on the topic that they could post a link too? I ask this because Im starting to entertain the idea of trying to teach myself Oracle/ become a multi platform DBA.

Oracle DBAs get paid more because Oracle is a pain in the ass to administer and the documentation for it sucks.
SQLSVR is much easier to administer, there is plenty of good information in Books Online, and hence there are plenty of SQLSVR DBAs. Supply and demand.
Of course, how many of those DBAs are GOOD at it is another matter, but practically anybody can do basic SQLSVR admin through the GUI.
I have found, however, that SQLSVR DBAs are better sql developers than Oracle DBAs, simply because Oracle DBAs have to devote so much effort into just running and tuning the engine.

Im certainly not trying to argue over how to use this free forum, but if it's so popular, why is this only the forth post of month?
