LOL @ druids celebrating solstice. Does everyone realize that the reason we celebrate Christ's birthday now is because the church was trying to increase their following in the early days? They figured that the bringing a common holiday in under the Christian religion that many people were already celebrating (I believe it was called Saturnalia) would increase interest. Of course, back then I think it was more about power and money than faith!

My older sister and her husband became quite upset with me one year when I pointed out that it was hypocitical of her to celebrate Christmas because both of them are atheists.

And well they should.
Is it hypocrytical of immigrants to set off fireworks on the 4th of July?
Christmas and Christianity are a part of our cultural heritage, whether or not we claim they as our faith.
Easter is a bastardization of a pagan holiday as well, so if it is not hypocritical of Christians to celebrate Christmas and Easter, then it is not hypocrytical of athiests either.
Actually, I know some very strict fundamentalist Christians have stripped any pagan remnants from Christmas, and do not put up Christmas trees, etc.

One of my most memorable moments was dealing with a fundamentalist Christian who chastised me for refering to Christmas as "X-mas". He was very upset. "How dare I take the Christ out of Christmas!"
I had to explain to him that the "X" in "X-mas" was actually the Greek letter CHI, and has been used as shorthand to represent Christ's name for centuries. It always surprises my how little effort people put in to understanding their own religions.

...no idea what the Druids are like in your (Red) neck of the woods but over here Druids sensibly only publically celebrate the Summer Solstice in the open... after all you wouldn't want to wander round Stonehenge all night on Dec 20th/21st just to freeze your nadgers off, when you could be going large down the nearest boozer..... I mean would you.....

BTW Happy Christams to one and all....... Other religions can and do have other festivals but they ain't Christams, they they aint right here, right now. And despite the self proclaiming politial correctness and pretend inclusiveness, that sadly we seem to have inmported form the States its still Christmas.. not the "festive season", "winterval" or what ever other pretend PC manner of declaiming Christmas has been dreamed up this year....

its 14:00 of Friday... time to stop work and start partying hard...... see you next year troops...
and remember dont do anything in moderation.....
Im just trying to find where the teeshirt boughtint carribbean 2 years ago is... the one with my personal message for this, or any day ending in a "y".

not at all as long as they are either citizens or are working towards citizenship. everyone here is an immigrant. although I am 1/16th native American but you would'nt know it by looking at me. Even the "native" Americans came across from Asia.
