Quote of the Week - Nominations
|
|
Merely a bit of fun.
Every so often one of us notes a particularly funny, profound, evocative phrase in a post on the board. Informally we sometimes refer to it as Quote of the Week.
Reference the quote here. First week is extended (coz I only thought of it on a Thursday....) to 23:59PM Sunday 24th Feb. Nominations can be after this but the quote must have been posted on or before. You can't nominate yourself.
Nominate & post a link. You can vote for the best on the 25th (or so - depends when I can be bothered setting up the poll and whether or not anyone is fussed in the first place).
EDIT - addition to the rules. Someone has pointed out that this could become either an in-joke or a place to post links to put down or flame wars. Certainly this shouldn't be the case. Anyone can nominate and nominations from people that don't necessarily post 30 gazillion posts a week are especially welcome. To try to ensure that no quotes that are in some manner defaminatory against another user get undue attention, please use your good sense. It's impossible to come up with any hard and fast rules. I'll moderate nominations in any event. This is, afterall, supposed to be light hearted.
EDIT - further clarification - any nominations are to be positive. You don't nominate someone for saying something dumb.

Am I allowed more than one nomination?

That was a very poor choice of pages to explain a phrase from the Japanese culture, although it might very well explain how venture capital firms use it. If it does, that firm does not have much clue about Japanese culture.
Find a reference that includes "Mikato" or "Sho-Gun" and you'll be a whole lot closer to the way I used the term. Culturally correct references are probably hard to find already translated into English, but the page that r937 cited is way off the mark from the way that I used/intended the phrase.

I finally got to use this one in the Corral today; it's one of my favourites so I'm entering it

No, you can't (see poot's rules in post #1 of this thread).
That's Ok, I'll nominate that post anyway. Both a great quote and a nice summary of the thread that it is from.

OMFG - who forced a poll into my post?
I feel .... violated .... and confused.
I bet his last name starts with the same letter as his first name.
