Wink GUI Access Vs. VB

Seeing that the Access Forum is so bussy. And most questions in it are Designd related.
I was wondering: why would someone choose Access as a front end ?
And not just as a back-end solution and use Access merely as the database.

See i'm a VB-man myself so I was wondering how y''all stand.

The ONLY thing i could think of is that it is "Free" in the sence if you bought Office Pro you get it as a bonus.

But the REAL question is : How in gods name can (or rather WHY) would an organisation let developers design there solution in Access instead of VB or anny other development-suit.

So the poll is : What would you rather choose as a front-end development suit : Access Vs. VB (or other)

why would people choose access as a front end...

1. they already have access and have experience with it

2. they're not a programmer and the only thing they can think of is that VB is some kind of sexually communicated superbug

3. access is better than fortran

4. the query builder is da bomb

5. access reports are drop-dead simple to build

6. shall i go on?

So if i read it correctly your saying that Acces is build for people with an IQ less then 82. Just use the wizzard and hope for the best.
Business guy : If we need an addition we will hire someone who can "program" (mostly a VB-developer).

So if you want to distibute your "Application", do you burn your mde on a cd ?
Then how will you start (lets not say install) the app. oh wait offcourse it's only inhouse progamming. Fortunately (hopefully), no one will see it. How crappy it looks. ;-)

Shall I go on !!!

One stop shop. It does everything at least competently, some things very well.

Access - looks crappy? Have you ever seriously shown a client a VB report? I hope you were embarrassed. We are talking classic VB here right not .NET?

If so I'll give you:
7. VB 6.0 is deprecated - Access is not. You need an IQ of 82 or less to think VB 6.0 is a viable platform for future development.

Just add it to your dependencies and you have a spell checker.

my only dependencies are air, food, and appleton's estate v/x

the reason i asked about the spell checker is that you could use one

this line has 4 errors: "So if i read it correctly your saying that Acces is build for people with an IQ less then 82."

Yep, even made a lot of reports in vb5 (Crystal reports was integrated then)
And do you realy think that when i used vb6 i would use integated reportmanager. C.R. 8 works like a charm. But the Poll was GUI based
Evenso made a lot of internet based applications that where verry advanced for its time with vb6 ( http://www.db-teg****/dbts_projekt.htm )

Access is not!! Its not!?! because its not used to develop out-house. Have you ever got an (paying) develop-assignment and you came back with an CD/DVD with an Access.mde /.mdb on it ???? (Hope not.) Or did you make an setup cd that you developed in a GUI based-enviroment.
Heck, i'm not telling you either to open Access 2, am I ?

But thats what you get for being european, you learn 5 languishes at once growing up, and then you decide to learn a few other like VB ; HTML and Java.

And talking about dependencies ditto on Air and Food Would add water but rather drink Courvoisier Cognac VSOP or Southern Comfort with 7-up

No man, just messing with u guys.
But on that subject : Why would Access have a rebuild / repair function, build in it by default ?

ditto. I do not care what nonsense they make me do as long as I get paid in the end. Plus I like the pleasure of the I-told-you-so when something does not go well and I raised the flag of using the wrong tool for the job.

Never ever had a customer that exactly knew what he wanted.
They usealy have an genaral idear what they want. And made an assessment that it would Probably be nice to have it in .....
But leave the decision to someone else.(This way they are covered)

Does the customer realy knows what the difference is over there ?
Gee, Paradise really exists

Headhunters are even struggeling with the difference between Java and javaScript

Excellent report designer.
Rapid Application Development.
Easy upgrade path to SQL Server once the application grows beyond Access's capacity.
