I found that article very informative, particularly the part about developers working overtime in return for pizza and t-shirts.
Prior to this, I had always been satisfied just with the pizza. I had no idea I could bargain for shirts as well. Henceforth, I will not sell my time for mere pepperoni.

one objection though. I am totally 100% mercenary. All jokes aside.

I can only speak for myself...I need a quiet place to work and I don't like it when non-techies (like project managers) sit close to me and have little ad-hoc meetings in their cubes.

Also, for the love of pickles...why are some cubes built so that you can feel every vibration in every cube that touches it? STOP THAT. A lot of us are half Rain Man and we don't like that. I certainly don't; I find it distracting to feel the vibrations of the "energetic" project manager next door banging his fists on his desk.

The cat/geek comparison was good. I agree with a lot of it.

The cat comparison seems to apply to most management-employee setups. I'm not in the IT business but the concepts still apply in my workplace. =)

I'll take your word for it; I've been an IT body my whole career since I graduated from college. Love this field. LOVE IT.

Just curious...why is someone not in the "IT business"
slumming around on a database forum?
