I think you will find StarTrekker (ST) usually lurks in the Access Forums.

Good Lord - I happened to check up on some JET DDL.

It took God knows how long for SQL Server to catch up with that little uber-feature.

this morning slashdot says people have stopped evolving. just when I thought I had reached the depths of despair.

I ordered Rudy's book. It does not come out until Christmas. They better ship my anarchy essays sooner.

I've heard a guy present a different view re evolution. The main point is that in the Western world there are no longer the same selective pressures that there were, however genetic diversity is increasing (due to travel, inter racial conception (and I use racial in its loosest possible terms) etc).

But evolution is not over a few generations - it is over thousands and thousands of years. We are genetically indistinct from the pre-historic hunter gatherers.

It's not news.

The core problem of the human psyche is that when we can't fathom something, when it is unquantifiable in our own minds, we come up with all sorts of things to say about it. We love to ponder and postulate on the if or might be's instead of actually looking at scientific fact and giving a statement as an "Up until now".

I will never understand why humans want to remove all the wonder out of life, or find some fairytale to magically answer all of their questions. Can't there just be questions without an answer?

Can we not just take the now at it's face value and improve it so that our future is better? What use is planning for the future when all you can control are your own actions?

so I want to quit my job because it is not right for me. I am too much part of the machine here instead of building the machine. so I keep slipping up because I do not well with non creative tasks.

however, of my immediate family I am the only one working full time, the economy is contracting to put it mildly, and I am about to prepare a financial bailout package for a certain relative of mine.

I think I need a personal day. I feel myself slipping off the wagon here.

I can't figure out whether you actually want someone to reply to this or not.

I am doing training today. I hate public speaking.

I don't do well in large groups. I am already tired.

I love speaking on things I am an authority on {{{Don't you dare go there - any of you!!!!}}} SQL Training is my favourite.

Not mad keen when it is something I know little about. My last client presentation was a nightmare - there were quite some lessons learned that day, yesirreeee.

As Poots said, evolution is a long term thing. When you take away all the selective pressures then you just allow all sorts of strange mutations to arise and add to the gene pool. Some of these might be good but most will probably be bad. Some mutations might be obvious such as height, some might be hidden such as the ability to withstand skin cancers, some might not be beneficial such as our inability to absorb sugar. Eventually when the crunch comes and only the "fittest" survive then you might find one of these slightly different modifications has a big advantage.

Interesting films to watch are Gattaca and Idiocracy.

Of course there can - I'd suggest something along the lines of "Does anyone on the forum suffer from erectile dysfunction?"
