Working from home today... The Bolivian is also off today. Hmmmm....

AND it's 12:08. I can guiltlessly drink a beer now. Well, not that guilt is ever an attribute of mine in regards to popping open a sudsy one.

Got invites to TWO South American Halloween parties this weekend. Friday and Saturday. Probably going to have to pass on the Friday one. Even though the hotness ratio of the attendees at Friday's is much higher than the Saturday one....it is about a half-hour away, and that taxi ride would be too damn costly.

Seems a shame to base party attendance on the cost of the round-trip ride, but then again, driving after consuming copious amounts of tequila and beer are likely to be even more costly. Ask me how I know.

I had a coder at my last job that would swear with his variables. If you looked close enough, you could read it. It was rather funny. I wondered why he didn't line everything up like I like to, and why his were in these funny paragraph blocks. So I looked closely one day and there it was...

In six years worth of coding. Lol.

Just wow...
Database in full recovery model has *never* had its unrestricted transaction logs cleared since it's implementation (approximately 2 years ago).

How on earth did the DBA and Infrastructure miss a near 900Gb transaction log?

I'm lost for words.

Wotcha fellow Tolerable Buddies.

I am renovating Flumpington Towers and have a few pennies left over in my budget. I think an overhaul of my audio visual centre is numero uno on my list of Good Things To Squander Money on. Bare in mind I only recently left analogue telly....

Already settled on HD LCD telly. What other things should I consider? I've got big, fat broadband connection. Would merrily get surround sound, entertainment dedicated PC, ....erm....other things. Any thunkles, experiences, recommendations?

One minor thing - I quite like mature technologies rather than the latest shiny thing. Hence LCD, not holding out for those organic thingies. Probably not yet ready to make the Blueray jump. I like good bang for my buck.

I have an RSH-100 media player which is great for watching film torrents/documentaries etc. This one isn't high def but then nor is my telly. It's paid for itself a million times over already. An improvement might be the ability to play files directly from the NAS (see below).

I also have two squeezeboxes for listening to the music on a computer system somewhere and playing through the hifi/home cinema system. This one's neat as it has a good interface. My favourite bit is being able to listen to old programs on R4 while sitting in front of the fire and sipping a whysky.

When I started I had a 250GB hard disk on the computer that ran all the time and that got a bit restrictive. 3 years later I now have a 2TB NAS box that uses little power and handles everything.

Turns out the chap doesn't even know how how many Mb in a Gb.
Transaction log is *only* 98Gb. The total diskspace taken up by transactionlogs on that instance is well over 350Gb though.

Are you deliberately working in gigabits and megabits?
