I just tried Chrome...things just pop!

I thought Firefox was fast

my preferred browser is IE8, because of how nicely it's integrated with (1) outlook express, and (2) windows explorer

firefox sucks the big one when it comes to launching itself (it's a ~huge~ pig), which in my view is the crucial test, as i'm opening and closing browser windows constantly (i tend not to keep windows open for apps i'm not using at the moment)

I don't notice much difference between major browsers for casual use. However, there are HUGE benefits to using Firefox for daily web development tasks. Until the other guys give me something comparable to the Firebug/Web Developer Toolbar/IE Tab combination, I can't move away from Firefox.

IE8 is rubbish, it's forever crashing.

Chrome is okay, but at work I use Firefox, which is alright for browsing.

Try developing stuff that works in everything else but renders like a Picasso in IE8, then tell me how great it is (to Rudy that one...).

Never had it crash, but then I use it only when I absolutely have to.

it is my impression that this thread is about which browser you prefer to use, not which browser you don't like to code for

of course, so much time has passed since the original question was asked, that i can understand why you suddenly forgot the topic when charlie resurrected it from the dead today

I think Opera is the best and i love it. I have been using it regularly for atleast 6 years.

IE is not a browser at all.
Firefox is slow.
Chrome is good but out-of-the-box it has a limited set of features.
I have little experience of using safari. In short i didn't interest me that much.

ie8 and for that matter ie9 have not fully implemented css3 so I would go for Firefox or Chrome. Firefox's performance is fine with a bit of fine tuning.

i don't mean to be rude, but why would you stop using a browser to browse the internet when there are so damned few css3 web sites out there?

if you are talking about using a browser to check your own work when developing a site, that's different -- but that's a different thread from this one

Because there are attributes that are supported in Firefox, Opera and Chrome that are not supported by ie so you have to careful to limit your aspirations and dumb-down your sites.

Having worked hard to get cross-browser compatibility, it is an annoyance that ie does not keep up.
