What would you be looking in the data when developing a new application?
Just throw anything on your mind such as indexes, relationships with other tables, join type etc.

i would look at the shape of the data, whether it has curves in the right places

then i would look at the type of the data, whether it is prim or promiscuous

finally, i would look at how agreeable the data might be to my ministrations

Model the business. That's it.

If you design your database to support forms and features, supporting those specific forms and features is all that it will do.

If you design your database to model the business, then it will do everything the business could ask it to do.

I'm going to write that down to my boss!
