The first thing NOT to do is annoy the people who are already professional DBAs. To help you out with this, I took liberty of removing the SIZE and COLOR tags from your post...

Learn hardware, learn networking, and of course take some courses in SQL coding and database design. Install a database server on your own computer, and start playing with it, designing databases for your own use.

looking for a career change

Hello,
In follow up to this post, I have about 9 years experience in software quality assurance and have been interested in the DBA side of the shop (the seem to get such better hours than we QA's.)

Are there any recommendations on courses or certifications that would help me get started on that path? Right now I'm not looking to get another degree, just a cert.

Thoughts?

Thanks!
