They are trying to pull me into some larger projects because they think I am bored, but the Truth is I have just ran out of CARE for this place, and I can not tell them that. This situation is unwinnable, and what good people we have are spread to thin to make any real change here. So I have resigned myself to keeping the barbarians at the gates, and no more.

I swear, Rudy, we are twins of different mothers.
I have been here over EIGHT YEARS, dammit, but the last 6 have been boring and I have kept myself here by convincing myself that the pay is good and the bonuses are good. However, during the past 3 years, the bonuses have been non-existant, and although they have just started giving them again (we got a whopping $97 in December for the 3rd quarter of last year and $300 for the last quarter of 2011 in February), we did not get a yearly bonus this year (yeah, I know it is a BONUS, so I should not care, right?) when they have come in December or January every year, this year instead of the usual $2000 to 18,000.
I know it is a bonus, but we also have not received merit (or cost-of-living) increases in pay for the past 4 years. I know also that many people are out of work and I should not complain.
It IS nice to have a paycheck, but I feel like a whore at times because I am doing pissant work that I really could care less about, under the title of a "Director", and it is just getting friggin' old.
My lovely wife says "shut up and work, asshole, it's a paycheck", and I agree, but it is just getting old. I really thought I could do it forever...the prostitute thing, but I feel less and less enthusiastic about working for a boss that thinks he is The Man, but works at a level that I honestly feel is a mid-level programmer. And he has the nerve to tell me that my code is "less than optimal". Like he would know what the )(&*$ "optimal" is. He is still coding for mainframes and flat files. The latter pisses me off more than it is possible to convey with words on a public forum. Most of our SQL and data warehouse files/tables consist of flat files implemented as SQL tables. I argue, but it is over his head, so I am always overruled.
Lately I have been thinking there has got to be similar money out there with less prostitution-like work.

In other news, tonight I go home and finish up paperwork to send in for Patricia's "Permanent" green card (we have to prove to them with paperwork that our marriage is real and not just for the sake of her green card. I am going to send them a box of used condoms. Wait...then they will just say she is paying for her residency with sex. Bastards. I guess I will actually have to do the work to support that our "lives are intertwined" in money as well as life in general.
In other, other news, I also have to do my frickkkkkin taxes this weekend.

We didn't have to go through the AOS because we were married over two years while living in Ireland. My wife received her perm residency card thirty days on arrival in America. And I finished my taxes yesterday with the tricky foreign tax credits and all.

Well I still have a traveler on my couch, and the odd thing I notice is that while I spend hours on the computer at a time as a source of pain and income, while he seems to do the same thing as a source of pleasure or entertainment or something. Very bizzarre.

You lucky dog! I didn't realize that you married Irish, I just thought you lived that way! Does that make you IBM (Irish By Marriage) ???

I didn't marry Irish. We lived in Ireland for two years and were married so we bypassed the AOS. My wife is Russian.

nah. I would'nt spend it on anything, but chicks, music and scotch and the last thing I need is more of all of that.
when the boss gave me my paperwork about my raise and bonus I thanked him and told him it was appreciated. He said he thought I would be more excited. I told him that is was the cash that kept me here, but for me it was really about the sport.
