Why do you help on forums?

I am just generally wondering why many of you spend some of your time helping people on a forum to gain nothing in return (mainly referencing to the people who have very few questions of their own for the forum)?

I do this too on mainly computing help forums, I do it sometimes just to pass the time, what about you?

Good question. I keep asking myself this question over and over again... I guess I'm addicted and can't stop now.

Because i can . . .

I firmly believe that once we have done "our thing" a long time, we should be willing to put something back in.

Besides, it is quite enjoyable

A challange (for me) is to not overuse the emoticons . . .

To make me feel intellectually superior and bolster my shamefully shallow ego.

Shallow? I thought it was a vast sea of ego that drove you ;-)

I do it for the challenge, and to keep up to date on some technologies that may crop up here at a later date.
