Apps giving out errors...

CoolWebSearch.iefeatsl is a browser hijacker, implemented as two browser helper objects. If your homepage is redirected to 'www.search-aid.com' or if the browser's address is 'res://mshp.dll/index.html', you probably have this hijacker on your system.

There are many variants of CoolWebSearch.iefeatsl, trying to hide using pseudo-random names for its files and folders.

Classification: Adware

Variants
CoolWebSearch CoolWebSearch.alfasearch CoolWebSearch.control CoolWebSearch.cpan CoolWebSearch.ctrlpan CoolWebSearch.dnse CoolWebSearch.dnserr CoolWebSearch.ehttp CoolWebSearch.excel10 CoolWebSearch.explorer32 CoolWebSearch.iefeatsl CoolWebSearch.iefeatslupdate CoolWebSearch.keymgrldr CoolWebSearch.ld CoolWebSearch.madfinder CoolWebSearch.mssearch CoolWebSearch.mstaskm CoolWebSearch.msupdate CoolWebSearch.msupdater CoolWebSearch.mtwirl32 CoolWebSearch.olehelp CoolWebSearch.quicken CoolWebSearch.qttasks CoolWebSearch.soundmx CoolWebSearch.sys CoolWebSearch.time CoolWebSearch.winproc32 CoolWebSearch.xplugin CoolWebSearch.xpsystem

Vendor
CoolWebSearch.com

Detection
Bazooka Adware and Spyware Scanner detects CoolWebSearch.iefeatsl. Bazooka is freeware and detects spyware, adware, trojan horses, viruses, worms, etc

Manual removal (2 Steps)
1. go to control panel > add/remove programs and remove something called iefeatsl. This takes care of the problem.

2. Please follow the instructions below if you would like to remove CoolWebSearch.iefeatsl manually. Please notice that you must follow the instructions very carefully and delete everything that is mentioned. In most cases the removal will fail if one single item is not deleted. If Bazooka still detects CoolWebSearch.iefeatsl after stepping through the removal instructions, please double-check by stepping through them again.

Start the registry editor. This is done by clicking Start then Run. (The Run dialog will appear.) Type regedit and click OK. (The registry editor will open.)
Delete 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Classes \ CLSID \ {587DBF2D-9145-4c9e-92C2-1F953DA73773}', if it exists.
Delete 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Classes \ CLSID \ {FD9BC004-8331-4457-B830-4759FF704C22}', if it exists.
Delete 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ Browser Helper Objects \ {587DBF2D-9145-4c9e-92C2-1F953DA73773}', if it exists.

Exit the registry editor.
Restart your computer.

Re: Microsoft Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close

* Here is the workaround i found that worked for me. Go to Control Panel, Internet options. Next, go to Advance Tab.
Uncheck "Enable third party browser extension"
Click OK *

Worked fine, except that now my Google and Yahoo toolbars are gone. Did yours dissappear?

Thanks.

Starting up in "Safe mode with Network support" seems to bypass this problem and IE fuctions normally. This leads me to believe that some third party program is causing the problem.

With Windows XP this worked right away for me, but you might have to restart computer. If you have multiple profiles setup on your computer, you will have to do this for each profile.

I also noticed that my home page had been changed to res://nshp.dll/index.html#37049
You can change this through the Control panel, Internet options as well.

I unchecked enable third party browser extension and it worked! thanks

Re: Microsoft Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close

Hey Dances,

Worked like a charm.
The homepage change happened to
me as well, but I couldn't even tell
until now.

This was driving me bonkers. I tried
upgrading from XP Home addition to
Professional to no avail. Unfortunately,
in Microsoft's infinite wisdom, they do not
allow uninstall of IE, so not chance of trying
that. I think it's unimaginable that something
like this can totally know IE out opf the water.

Anyway, thanks for the post.
I need to use IE to grap some stuff from
a table and plop it into an Excel spreadsheet,
which doesn't work using netscape.

Thumbs up Re: Microsoft Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close

Hey man Dances! This is wonderful, thank you so much for your help.

For a long time I had had this problem, not being able to open a second window, and when finally today I could not open even ONE window, I looked you up here. First even with the help of the additional browser I have installed, just in case IE breaks down: Opera.

But now, after unchecking the 'third party browser extension', IE works fine just as it should! Again, thanks a lot for sharing this important time- and energy saving info.
