im having to dial up to my dialup account three times. Is this normal? Can I reinstall the dialup software? How and where? Its costing me a packet.

If you are using the default dial-up software shipped in Windows XP, yes you can reload it. If you are using a different package, you can usually reload them too. The biggest problem is that there isn't a "one size fits all" solution, since the details dictate a lot of the procedure.
