network connection log (windows 2000)

Hi,
I need to show for how long were some PCs connected to a specific network. The users (according to what they need to do) keep changing from one network to another by switching their cable to the corresponding node. What I need then is a log that tells me how long they were connected to one of these networks.
Unfortunately, buying a software to do this is not an option, so I need to produce some kind of script or something. I wonder if the Local Area Connection Status (where "duration" time is shown) is written somewhere into a text file. That's the only clue I can think of.
Hope someone can help me with this. Thanks in advance!
By the way, we are using Windows 2000
