Export to Excel has data error

I am using Paradox 9, and exporting tables to Excel 97. The export builds the file form the table, but information I have in one of the columns, for dates, does not move over correctly. The dates are shown in the following format:
11/10/2005
When the Excel file is built, the data in the column is 39672 instead of 11/10/2005. If I correct the data and import back to Paradox the data is correct, but I don't want to have to change the data each time I export a table to Excel.
How can I fix this problem? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You should export using CSV format with quotes around fields.

Alternatively

During the export make sure that the field is exported to Excel as a date.
And format the excel column as a date. Both excel and Paradox store dates as a number ######.#### and convert it for formating. This is how date time calculations are achieved. (It started with lotus and dbase.) I believe they have standardized on the beginning number which is not related to the Death or Ascension of Christ.
