Exclamation Database availability monitoring

Greetings,

I'm doing some research on which metrics are suited for measuring system availability. My goal is to create a checklist with the several metrics, based on the type of system. That is, I would like to identify some specific availability metrics for databases, network, file server, web servers, etc.

I've been looking in the internet and have a list with some of these metrics and a description of the measurement process. However, was unable to find information on how to monitor the metrics for a database (uptime/downtime, transactions succeeded, troughput). I believe the chosen method will depend on the database type (MSSQL, Oracle, mySql, etc.) and on the used tool...

Anyone can help me?
Thanks in advance!

Best regards,

Ricardo Pinto.
