Cluster of databases

Hello Everybody,
I am a new member in the dBforums and really I need your help.
I have to do project about the cluster of the databases. And I have questions which I have to understand it to start doing my project. however I searched a lot in search engines but I did not find the answers to my questions. all sites talk about how they designed the cluster of databases. but that is not what I need. So please can you make these answer available to me. I wil be very thankful if you helped me.

let me tell you the questions:

What is the cluster of databases?

What is the problems that is solved by the cluster of databases?

What the problems that the cluster of databases has?

What are the existing solutions of that problems?

I will be very thankfutl if you answered one of these questions.

Sorry to noise you, but really I want answers for these questions.

The cluster of databases is a collection of the databases which is accessible through signle running server.
that is what I have for question#1.

I am confused with the cluster. is it hardware or software?

Well, not quite. When you talk about a "Cluster" among IT folks, you will get a bunch of different ideas among different people. Unfortunately, none of those ideas is "a group of databases". You can host a group of databases on a cluster, but the cluster is not the database(s) itself. Give question 1 another shot.
