MS Access - ADP file error

I recently upgrade my Office 2000 with SP1a and began receiving error message "The ADP file is not in the correct format for a Microsoft Access project" when I try to import Excel spreadsheets to my database. I upgraded to SP3, but that did help either. Any one got a solution???
