Is it possible Coexist two version of AIX on one box?

Hi All, I am working with AIX 5.2 and db2 v8.1, I hahve two questions:
1- Is it possible Coexist two version of AIX on one box? (e.g. 5.2 and 4.3)?
2-Can we upgrade db2 from v5.2 to v8.1 in one step? I have heard I should migrate from 5.2 to v6 or v7 and then jump to v8. is it correct?

thank you in advance for your help?

for 1 questions , answer is yes, you can install mutiple versions of db2 in same box.

for 2 questions , answer is no, you can not migrate from v5 to v8, v5 to v7 , v7 to v8.

because lots of difference between v5 & v8.

let me know if you need migration instruction .

thank you

I donot think AIX4.3 & AIX5.2 can coexist. Only one OS version is possible per server.

Installing different DB versions will not be a problem.

Prakash

Hi, I'm a newbie and currently working on a project involving db2. Could anyone confirm if it's possible for db2 version 7 to coexist with db2 version 8 on the same AIX server? I've heard that it's not possible. What's the reason behind it and what are the dependencies? I would really appreciate any assistance you could offer. You can e-mail me @ alvsa@sunlife.com or vinosantos@postmaster.co.uk

Thanks,
Vino

Yes you are able to have db2v7 and db2v8 under one aix (already we have db2v5.2 ,v7.2 and v8.1 under aix 4.3.3.
db2 v7 is installed usr/lpp and v8 is installed in /usr/opt

good luck
