Where can I find the system & local database directory????

hi friends,

i installed db2 udb 8.1 pe. and created sample database. then i reinstalled(uninstalled and then installed) it for some other reason. but when i try to create the sample database, it always says
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
SQL1005N The database alias "SAMPLE" already exists in either the local databa
e directory or system database directory.
SQL1013N The database alias name or database name "SAMPLE" could not be found. SQLSTATE=42705
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
when i refer the technical support at
http://www-306.ibm.com/cgi-bin/db2ww...7m0sql1000.htm
it asks to find out whether the "sample" alias already exists in the system and/or local database directory and it provides 3 different solutions corresponding to the combination of its existence.

can anyone please help me to find out the system & local database directory and how to find out the sample database existence?

Jake

I guess you would have used the defalut settings ...

db2 catalog database sample on C:

This should create an entry in the system db directory for sample ...

Then u can connect to it or drop it

Cheers

Arrow Only local ??!

Since you're running personal edition,
your local and system database directories
should be identical - in fact they're the same.

First try:

db2 list database directory

To see if you have any databases
already created.

Small Question

Hi,

Did you drop the database before you uninstalled the software?

If yes then it is surprising else what has happened is that the database has got uncataloged in the uninstall and not deleted.

I suggest you try cataloging the database on your system using the command

CATALOG DATABASE SAMPLE

This should work and you should see the sample database. You can then drop the database using

DROP DATABASE SAMPLE

Then you can recreate it. Please refer to the command reference for additional help on catalog command.
