Question db2start error

Hey all,
I am new (this is my first time!) to DB2 (v7 on Red Hat 8) and I installed the software and had a default instance created.

I am trying to start the instance using the - db2start - command after logging in as 'db2inst1' user and getting this error -

"SQL10003C There are not enough system resources to process the request. The request cannot be processed. SQLSTATE=57011"

Pls advise on how to fix this

Thanks in advance!!

Check the kernel parameters in the Quick Beginnings guide, for Linux they are pretty specific. Db2 needs a lot of shared memory, semaphores, etc...

It's also on a documentation CD you would have received from IBM, and in the "Information Center" (I think that still exists).

db2start error

Thank you sir

Can I ask you one more question? (pls bear with me since I am a beginner).

I was asked to work on restoring db2 files from an existing backup.

Here's the format of one of the files from the backup -
ABC.0.db2inst1.NODE0000.CATN0000.20040225010003.00 1.gz

The problem? is I dont think the db2 instance/database to which these files belong doesn't exist any more.

Now, how do I go about restoring these files and extracting data?
Restore these files into a new instance/database?
Is that possible??
