Question db2 restore from backup

Hi Folks,

DB2 V7 on red hat 8.

Here's the format of one of the files from the backup -
ABC.0.db2inst1.NODE0000.CATN0000.20040225010003.00 1.gz

The problem? is I dont think the db2 instance/database to which these files belong exists any more.

How do I go about restoring these files into a database?
Restore these files into a new instance/database?
Is that possible??

Appreciate your help!

Yes you should be able restore it into a new database/instance.
Look at the RESTORE command in the Command Reference manual.

DB2 does not put a .gz extention on backup images, so I am assuming that someone zipped up the image to .gz . You will need to unzip it before you can restore from it.

Backup images on Linux are named in the following manner:

DB_Alias.Type.Instance_name.Node_number.Catalog_No de_number.Timestamp.sequence number

So for your image:

DB_Alias = ABC
Instance = db2inst1
Timestamp = 2004-02-25 01:00:03

You only have a single node and only one file was generated.

You can restore from instance name A to instance name B.
Similary from database name C to database name D.

So, the instance name & database name will not be a problem when you restore into different name.

Prakash
