Help!

I ran an alter on a DB2 table on AIX and added a nullable varchar column.I ran a select against the syscat.columns the new column was shown as one of the table's column.When i tried to do an update i get sql0206.Reference tells me the column does not exist, but i see it in the catalog.Can someone please help? it is holding up our system.Any advice is welcome
