when we use replace option in import does it delete the existing data or marks it for deletion? if it marks for deletion, when it actaully deletes the data?

if we use load with replace option, does it delete the existing data immediately..what's the difference here between import and load?

import and load mark all the used pages in the table as 'not used' and releases it back ...

So, the deletion is at the page level and not record level ...

This is how I understand the process ... Does someone have a different viewpoint ?
