I just want to confirm that assume that one did a full database backup, one still can issue a RESTORE DATABASE ... TABLESPACE from the db backup image and one isn't necessarily required to have separate tablespace backup images.

Your assumption is correct ...

But remember, there are other things (like creation of a table in a tablespace) that could impact the minumum point to which the tablespace can be rolled forward .. Look at the 'Minimum recovery time ' in 'list tablespaces show detail' output ...

You must also have LOGRETAIN set on when you do the backup. This is probably obvious to most people.

Do you have LOGRETAIN on (set to RECOVERY) for that database?

LOGRETAIN=RECOVERY is set.

According to the DB2 version 8.2 Command Reference, when using the "list tablespaces show detail" command, the Minimum recovery time is displayed (but only if not zero).
