Clustering

Hi Everybody,
I would like to know the following, as we have has decided to use DB2 V8.2 EE on Solaris platform.

1. Should I use VCS or some other software to cluster?
2. Should I use DB2 clustering? If I use DB2 clustering, do I need VCS?

Regards & Thanks,

Kishore

No such thing as DB2 8.2 EE.

Here are the versions available:

DB2 UDB Enterprise Server Edition (ESE)

DB2 UDB Workgroup Server Unlimited Edition (WSUE)

DB2 UDB Workgroup Server Edition (WSE)

DB2 UDB Express Edition (DB2 Express)

DB2 UDB Personal Edition (PE)

It would help to define what you mean by “clustering” and what you are trying to accomplish and to explain your application (OLTP, Decision Support, etc). “Clustering” has several different meanings.

Can you explain what you mean by clustering?

Do you want a failover backup server, like HACMP cluster on AIX?

Do you want to use DPF (Data Partitioning Feature) on one or more physical nodes? Would you being using DPF for performance enhancement (parallelism) or for high availability?

Do you want to cluster tables using a clustering index?
