a remote employee installed DB2 (8.1 EEE) on his
workstation. I do not know what responces he used on
the install, but I beleive all the defaults.

After installing I instructed him to bring up the
Command Line Processor and enter a "CREATE DATABASE"
(to a local drive) command. He did this by "copy-n-paste"
from a text file I sent him, so I am sure the syntax is correct on the statement. However, he gets the following
error:

SQL1096N The command is not valid for this node type.

What might have he done wrong (or missed) on the install to
get this error message?? (I am able to create the database
successfully on my machine.)

I assume you mena DB2 ESE. There is no EEE in 8.1.

What operating system was it installed on?

Did he try to create a database using the Control Center, or create the sample database in DB2 First Start?

I have asked him to run the db2level and db2licm -l commands and send me the
output but he has not yet done that.

He is probably running Windows 2000 (not server) but possibly might have Windows XP.

No, I do not believe he tried the sample. I know he did not use the command center, as I instructed him to use the Command Line Processor.

The other possibility is that he has installed a client and not a database server...

Ask him for the file names in sqllib/cfg directory ..

db2ese.lvl should be present if he has installed the server ..
