linear vsam dataset

this has to do with a db2/zos vsam dataset. I restored the vsam dataset independent from db2 and i am trying to get the data out of it. it seems to be defined as a linear vsam file and does not like it when i try to do record processing against it. does anyone have any idea how i can get the data from this file??
