Error connecting to database

Hi
We are facing with a problem when trying to connect to databse in AIX. The command we issues is

db2 "connect to <dbname> user <uname> using <pwd)"

It throws an error saying :
SQL1402N Unable to authenticate user due to unexpected system error

It has something to do with the db2ckpw file.

The suggested recommendation is to look in the privileges of the file.
What could be the possible reason for the system to throw an error suddenly.
