Calculate Shared Memory Usage

On Unix, how can we calculate the shared memory currently being used by the database instance.

Reason for this is that we have a limit to the size of shared memory that can be configured for use by the database. eg., Linux 1.74 GB per instance; Solaris 3.5 GB, etc...

TIA.
