Question Instance failure during scheduled backup

DB2 8.2 Win2003

I'm experiencing some unexplained instance failures on a soon to go live production DB, which is obviously of great concern.

The latest failure was during an overnight scheduled backup with quiesce.

Basically db2diag.log shows that the database encountered some errors around the same time as the backup and eventually issued a dbstop command.

Some highlights:

There have been quite a few problem previously with the quiesce command. If you are not on at least FP10, I would upgrade.

I'm on SP8 at the moment, I'll look at upgrading.
I haven't had any problems with quiesce until now, I did have a previous occassion where the instance shut down when the backup ran to a drive which had run out of space and under SP3 I had problems where some SQL statements killed the instance.

This is all making me a little concerned, are these problems widespread (it seems many SP's have a quirk that allows instance shutdown) or is it my particular situation?
