My understanding is the default page size is 4K. Is there any rule of thumb in such an environment when to increase the page size for a tablespace/table? On mainframe, we use 4K for everything.

For OLTP use 4K. For Data Warehouse use 32K.

As always, the above recommendations may vary depending on whether your application is pure OLTP or pure Data Warehouse, and also depends on the row size of each table.
